Eye Checkup

An in-depth assessment led by a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Vision Exam

There is a charge of £95 for your assessment, which is non-refundable.  If you need to cancel, please give us enough notice (at least 48 hours) so that we can rearrange your assessment date. The assessment fee will need to be paid to secure the booking.

Your in-depth assessment will take up to two hours approximately.

A highly experienced and qualified team will carry out the examination. This team is led by a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon who specialises in all aspects of Corneal and Refractive Surgery. Also, in the team are an Optometrist and our Corneal Nurse.

Your examination and consultation form a very important part of your potential treatment. The assessment includes several tests, which will determine both your suitability for treatment and help you decide on which is best suited to your personal needs and expectations.

During your assessment, you will have the following tests:

  •   Corneal Topography (measurement of shape and corneal thickness measurements)

  •   Wavefront analysis (this will analyze the optical quality of your eyes and the information will be used to guide treatment)

  •   Full vision testing by an Optometrist

  •   Counselling from the Corneal Nurse / Consultant

  •   Tear test for dry eyes

  •   A full bio-microscopic examination of the front of your eyes with your consultant

  •   Examination inside the eyes, including the retina with your consultant

You will have a full consultation with your consultant who will view the test results that you have had carried out and help you decide which treatment is best for you. They will explain how the procedure is performed, and you will be informed of the potential risks, as well as the benefits of treatment.

If you are deemed unsuitable for laser vision correction, alternative treatments, will be discussed with you. Multiple forms of vision correction treatments are available at the Eye Hospital.  During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you wish.

In rare circumstances, we may find other eye conditions that require treatment and onward investigation.  Although treatment in these situations cannot be offered by our laser service, your consultant will ensure that you are informed of the appropriate course of action. This is usually an onward referral to NHS services via your general practitioner.
